BC Pen — open to visitors
The British Columbia Maximum Security Penitentiary was decommissioned in 1980 after a series of riots and hostage takings made it evident that this model of incarceration and reform needed a new system and structure. In May of 1980, the prison was opened to the public for tours before all but the Gatehouse, Coal House, original Cell Block and Cemetery were demolished. The dark, structured confinement is pierced with slants of light that reflects on anything bright, and still the film grain is a collection of marks made by 102 years of anger, despair, fear. https://sassalog.wordpress.com/2018/10/26/bc-pen-open-to-visitors/
