The Reykjanes Series grew out of what awoke in me as I became immersed in Icelandic culture and the people’s interaction with their natural environment. The process of responding to this awakening through my art was not immediate. My first experiences were overwhelming: a flooding of my senses and a re-evaluation of my notions of cultural response to existing within a natural environment. What was the essence of all that I was experiencing? Much is beneath the surface and what is beneath in Iceland surfaces in the geothermal. Bubbling up from the depths are waters full of colour and energy. I saw a volatile harmony, a glimpse into the future and beautiful compositions. The colours, shapes and textures spoke to me, and I set about creating this series.
