Nature’s Veil
Nature was always seen as a force that cannot be understood and depicted as goddesses such as Neith, Artemis or Isis. During the Enlightenment, science and philosophy looked towards revealing nature's secrets. The arts described this as attempting to lift nature's veil and sculpted a statue that bore the following inscription: "I am all that has been and is and shall be, and no mortal has ever lifted my mantle." This is a warning to us against any hubris that we may have lifted that veil. It is perhaps the folly in which we find ourselves and our science at war with nature than in harmony.
As the veil on Samhain grows thin between two worlds, the Anthropocene thins the veil between the epochs. Looking upon nature we feel the harmony and energy of constant creation. Looking through nature to our world we get glimpses of our folly, destruction and chaos. Our attempts to lift the veil has opened the cracks of darkness that is growing around us.
