Every Breath We Take
"Every Breath We Take" explores the unique and fragile ecosystems in the Gulf Islands Mediterranean climatic zone in the Salish Sea. In particular, the moss and lichen-filled glaciated outcrops punctuate with gnarly Garry oaks and Arbutus that snake with their smooth skin into the light. These forests breathe in the CO2 we produce and breathe out the Oxygen that sustains us. The phytocides given off by these forests also heal us as they have antibacterial and antifungal qualities that fight disease and stress. Our bodies respond by increasing the white blood cells that help kill tumours and virus-infected cells. We are part of these forests and depend on them for our survival. Yet between one and five percent of these groves are left in their natural state.
